Dedicated Sports Shooter Status
Dedicated (Section 16) status lets you motivate for additional sporting firearms and higher ammunition limits. ISSA awards and maintains dedicated status through courses, references, and an annual 15-point activity requirement.
Occasional vs dedicated
Section 15 occasional shooters have limits on sporting firearms and ammunition. Section 16 dedicated shooters may motivate for more firearms (R150 per motivation) and higher ammo/primer allowances, and may pursue endorsements.
Annual points
Earn 15 points per year to keep dedicated status. Log shoots and competitions in your member portal — ISSA tracks compliance for you.
How to become dedicated
Apply online or at the kiosk, pay and submit ID, use range / secretary references, and provide a letter of motivation with a referee for your dedicated status certificate.
Dedicated status points system
Target: 15 points per year
- 5 points — unsupervised shoot on the range
- 10 points — supervised shoot (range officer) or club shoot
- 10 points — sports shooting competition on association targets
How to join
- 1.Complete the application (online or in-person at the kiosk)
- 2.Sign proof of payment and submit with the application and a copy of ID
- 3.Consult the Range and Secretary as a reference
- 4.For dedicated membership: letter of motivation with a referee reference
- 5.Receive your dedicated status certificate once approved
Maintain your status
- 1.Log in to your ISSA member portal
- 2.Record range shoots and competitions under Activities
- 3.Build to 15 points for the year
- 4.Upload targets or log attendance for each activity
- 5.Request endorsements and SAPS motivations when needed
